Here at EatingNYC, we’re huge brunch fans. Aficionados, even, of the breakfast-lunch hybrid meal that serves some of the hottest dishes in the city. In hopes of adding some new spots to your brunch rotation, here are some favorites that you probably haven’t brunched at but most certainly should check out:
L’Artusi – L’Artusi, an upscale Italian institution in Greenwich Village (and also our favorite restaurant in NYC), is famous for their pastas and extensive wine list. What many don’t know, though, is that they host an impressive brunch menu with everything from hanger steak to lemon-ricotta pancakes to house-cured arctic char bruschetta. Cocktails and pasta favorites are offered, as well.
Fairfax – Fairfax is the new Perla Cafe 2.0 – an all-day wine bar and restaurant in the West Village from the same owners as the former Perla Cafe. With options such as a Cubano, Gravlax with Challah Chips, and Sourdough Toast with Grilled Peaches, it’s hard to go wrong at this cozy restaurant.
Loosie’s Cafe – Loosie’s Cafe, the South Williamsburg, cafe version of Loosie Rouge, serves up an uber-casual brunch with pastries galore. If you’re into something heartier than a croissant, opt for the Ricotta Toast or Grain Bowl.
Balaboosta – Chef Einat Admony of Taïm has an innovative take on Israeli-Mediterranean brunch at Balaboosta, her Middle Eastern Nolita restaurant. Everything here tastes immensely home-made, with dishes such as Coconut Brioche French Toast and Shakshouka highlighting the brunch menu.
Cherche Midi – The seemingly straight-out-of-France bistro from Keith McNally, Cherche Midi, has a comprehensive brunch menu, French and otherwise. Whatever you go with, make sure to have an order of the Lobster Scrambled Eggs on your table. Pro Tip: they also serve the famous Black Label Burger from Minetta Tavern.
Shalom Japan – Shalom Japan highlights why creative, Jewish-Japanese fusion restaurants should become a staple. With dishes like Matzoh Ball Ramen and a Sake Kasu Challah French Toast on the brunch menu, this place is a must.
Rider – Rider, the Williamsburg bistro serving up inventive American fare, boasts a creative and delicious brunch menu. The Lox Fries and Lemon + Fennel Donuts are some of our favorites, but everything on the menu is a hit.
Shuka – The former Hundred Acres spot has reinvented itself as Shuka, a brand-new Mediterranean restaurant on MacDougal. Grilled Lamb Merguez, Shakshuka and Pork Belly & Parsnip Hash are included on the brunch menu, as are Ricotta Pancakes and a whole myriad of cocktails.
