With summer right around the corner, it’s time we actually start eating a little more healthy so we can be beach-ready by June. What better way to kickstart your new #fitfam #healthy lifestyle than with a delicious grain bowl, which is basically the brain child of a salad and a burrito bowl. Here is a list of 5 of our favorites in NYC.
Great eggs for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late night? Sign us up! At Egg Shop, they’re using only top quality (read: cage free, organic) eggs and serving them up in really innovative ways with creative and delicious flavor combos. They’ve got typical egg dishes, like their take on a B.E.C., but what you might not expect is that they serve a really amazing grain bowl (the Spandex Bowl), with miso quinoa, avocado, pickled carrots, farm green, and tamari to top it off.
In the era of girl power, there’s no better way to celebrate your fellow (wo)man than going to De Maria, a café run by women, but meant for everybody. Executive chef and director Camille Cecerra is best known for her beautiful Dragon bowls from when she worked at Café Henrie (also a great spot for grain bowls), and don’t worry, she brought them with her to De Maria. This colorful bowl is packed with super foods like turmeric, avocado, tahini, and more, so make sure to grab an Insta before digging in!
El Rey is a cool, updated of the 1950’s style luncheonette everybody used to love, but instead of getting an egg cream you can grab a great cup of coffee. The chefs at El Rey really focus on getting everything on the menu to balance sweet, spicy, and sour, and their grain bowl hits the nail on the head. The grain bowl comes with persimmon, hazelnuts, cred cress, and the chipotle tahini which is a blessing in a dressing.
Simply put, Dimes is your favorite diner from the 21st century. They have all the classics you know and love like breakfasts sammies, tacos, hashes, pancakes, and toasts, but with all the trendy ingredients you know you want, like matcha. Try their power bowl with black rice, avo, black beans, pumpkin seeds, and all the leafy greens you need.
Sunday in Brooklyn
We wish every Sunday morning started with food from Sunday in Brooklyn. You’ve definitely seen mouthwatering photos of their drippy pancakes from brunch, but have you heard about their grain bowl? Our waitress recommended getting the bowl with their black cod pastrami, and we were right to trust her because we’re still dreaming of it; the pastrami was perfectly flakey and smoked—10/10 would recommend.
